Meet Dr. Elise Kramer: Interview with One of the Best Optometrists in Florida
What made you want to become an optometrist?
When I was applying to medical school, my mother developed a tumor behind her eye. I would go with her to her appointments for radiotherapy and her follow-ups. This experience really got me interested in eye disease as well as the treatment and management of these conditions. Discovering the world of optometry was such a pleasant surprise to me. I never expected it to be all that it is. The possibilities in optometry are really endless!
Are there any developments in your field that you’re excited about?
Smart contact lenses, correction of higher order aberrations, more options for myopia management and new research on scleral lenses!
What makes you stand out among other optometrists?
I offer things that are different and that cannot be purchased from a local optical or eye chain. I provide my clients with customized products and services that cannot be purchased online. I spend a lot of time with each patient and make sure that they are getting exactly what they need and more.
What were your favorite subjects or activities when you were in school?
Biology and chemistry
What do you do when you aren’t in the office?
I love music. I have been playing classical piano for over 20 years and I also sing.
I like to stay active and play tennis and take part in water sports as well as winter sports such as skating and snowboarding. Whenever I get a chance, I love discovering new parts of the world. Traveling is truly a passion of mine as well. I also love to study languages. I currently speak 6 languages fluently and plan on learning another one.
What part of your job do you love the most?
Changing patients’ lives. Finding answers that no one else was able to find and improving their quality of life.
What piece of advice would you give to potential patients that are hesitant about addressing potential eye health concerns?
If you don’t ask, you won’t know. There are solutions available and there are always new developments in eye care. What didn’t work 10 years ago might be available now so make sure to visit your eye care practitioner annually in order to be up to date on the latest and greatest options.
